Social media posts of airline passengers making racist comments and disrespecting women troubling, disturbing

Posts circulating on Facebook about the conduct of two male passengers aboard Provincial Airlines flight 922 from Happy Valley-Goose Bay to St. John’s Monday evening are troubling and disturbing, says Nunatsiavut President, Johannes Lampe.

“The posts reported the men made several racist remarks towards Inuit and that at least one showed lack of respect for a female flight attendant by making lewd jesters towards her.” notes President Lampe.

“To refer to Inuit as ‘Eskimos’ and suggesting some passengers were carrying their “Kamutik” aboard the flight is degrading, and treating women with such disregard is totally unacceptable.”

President Lampe commends Provincial Airlines for dealing with the matter swiftly by issuing an apology and banning the two men indefinitely from all flights.
