Nain Wind-Micro Grid Project

The Nain Wind-Micro Grid Project initiative will take place 2 km (1.24 miles) from the center of the town of Nain, over 1 km (0.6 miles) from the nearest existing buildings, and half a kilometer (0.3 miles) from the Nain water tower.

The turbines will not be visible to most residents in Nain due to its location on a high point on the North side of the community and the existing topography. Detailed visual impacts can be found in Appendix K of the environmental registration.

The initiative will take place in Nain. The two nearest communities are Nain and Hopedale.

The initiative will include the construction of 1-2 Wind turbines, a battery energy storage system, and a micro-grid controller. The construction phase will consist of the establishment of an access road, set up of essential construction equipment, installment of collector lines and finally the assembly of turbines and battery energy storage system.

This phase is expected to begin in the Fall of 2022 and end in Fall 2023. The operational phase will consist of post-construction monitoring, turbine performance monitoring, and maintenance.

The operational phase is expecting to begin in Fall 2023 and continue for 30 years until turbines are decommissioned. This timeline is subjected to change.
