Avian influenza has been detected in bird’s populations in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and PEI.
To date, there have been no cases of AIV in Nunatsiavut.
When preparing harvested birds, always wear gloves, thoroughly clean your prep area including tools and clothing, ensure meat is fully cooked with no pink meat and juices run clear, eggs should be brushed off, not washed with water, and eggs should fully be cooked, no runny yolks.
If you see a sick or dead bird, please do not handle the bird and report it to your Community Conservation Officer.
