The Nain Wind Micro-Grid Project is a proposed 1-2 turbine (2.3-4.6 megawatt (MW)) wind power project with a battery storage system and micro-grid controller to integrate with the existing diesel system in Nain.
The proposed location of the wind turbines is approximately 2.5 km from the center of Nain.
It is the first project of this scale within Nunatsiavut, and it is expected that it will serve as a pilot project for renewable energy development in the region.
This project will help reduce the amount of diesel fuel consumed at the NL Hydro power plant in Nain.
It is anticipated that the construction will begin in June 2024, with commercial operation in 2025.
