The annual Tree lighting was held in Nain this past Sunday, on the first Advent on December 3, 2023.
We spoke with Sandra Dicker one of the Ullapitsaijet Steering Committee members.
She says this year it was a good turn out, they had a little more people than they expected.
Dicker says they held the annual tree lighting at 7pm by the Nunatsiavut Government building.
This year they had volunteers from a couple students who needed their community volunteer hours, and 4 members from the Ullapitsaijet Steering committee.
Dicker adds before the tree lighting, they wanted to recognize John Martin Angnatok for all his volunteering within the town, and John Martin lite the annual tree lighting this year.
They had the Brass band members play a few songs, and the Nain choir sang a few hymns during the tree lighting.
The brass band played surutsit and napatulle and the Nain Choir sang unnuak upinak
There was Hot chocolate, Timbits and cookies served to about 200 community members.
Dicker adds she was happy to see a big turn out and she felt a lot of good community spirit during the annual tree lighting.
