Alumni Sports meet

There will be an Alumni Sports meet going on from October 9 to October 14, 2019 here in Nain at the Jeremias Sillitt Community Centre.

This event will bring together former athletes ages 35 years and up.

The objectives for the Alumni Sports meet are to provide opportunities to remain active and competitive, promote cultural pride through sporting competition and to dispel age related stereotypes.

To be a part of this event, you must have competed in at least one sports meet in the past.

Athletes have the choice to try out for the team they previously were a part of or for the community that they recently live in.

Teams will consist of 12 athletes; six males and six females and will consist of four athletes between the ages of 35-45 and two athletes that are 46 and up.

Travel will be covered for Nunatsiavut athletes from each community to Nain and return.

Sports will consist of volleyball, archery, table tennis, cross country running, 100-meter relay, 50-meter dash, standing long jump, high jump, ball throw, and Inuit games.

Coordinators have been selected in each community and will soon advertise try outs.

The community coordinators are Julie Dicker from Nain, Danielle Pottle from Hopedale, Kayla Andersen from Postville, Paul Andersen from Makkovik, Jeffrey Piwas from Natuashish, and Pam Campbell and Charlene Palliser from Rigolet.
