The Department of Health says the COVID-19 subvariant EG.5 has been detected in Newfoundland and Labrador.
But there is no indication that it is of more concern than the other forms of COVID circulating in the community.
They say that the World Health Organization has listed it as a variant under monitoring and not a variant of concern.
As for the potential impact on the fall booster campaign, government says they will continue to follow NACI recommendations and further details will be made public at a later date.
