An Elder’s Conference is taking place in Nain next week.
Beverly Hunter is one of the team organizers for the conference.
Hunter says that 27 elders from Nain will be participating in the 12 day gathering.
This year’s theme is similar to the one from the conference held in Hopedale last year.
Hunter says the theme is “Inuit Intergenerational Trauma and Addictions Healing”.
The focus will be on how the Europeans impacted the Inuit lifestyle, what was taken and what was lost, residential schools and relocation.
There will also be other events such as storytelling, art work, and a play.
The facilitator for the conference is Joe Salonto, a psychologist from Vancouver.
