Torngat Mountains Base Camp Closing Down

The base camp at Torngat Mountains National Park is closing down.

The last of the summer staff and crew are returning home tomorrow.

James Thorbourne is the president and CEO for Nunatsiavut Group of Companies.

He says some of the staff will be coming on a flight.

And some will be travelling on the passenger boat, Inuttatik, and on one of the Zodiacs.

Thorbourne says it was a busy summer for the base camp staff and crew.

Some crew members will be returning to winterize the base camp in mid September.

He says they will be shutting off the solar power system and water and sewer.

We hope to speak with the base camp manager, Wayne Broomfield, next week to find out how everything went this summer.
