Apology Made for Removing Zoar Remains (Audio)

The Field Museum of Natural History apologized to Labrador Inuit for removing the remains of 22 Inuit from Zoar in the 1920s.

The apology was made when representatives from the Nunatsiavut Government travelled to the museum in Chicago last weekend.

They were there to retrieve the remains and escort them back to their original resting place.

The remains arrived in Nain last Friday.

They will be returned to Zoar on June 22.

Zoar is an abandoned Moravian community located between Nain and Natuashish.

The remains were removed much to the objection of Inuit who lived in the area.
