Liz Evans Mitchell of Makkovik has retired after teaching for 30 years at the John Christian Earhart Memorial School.
Evans Mitchell knew she wanted to become a teacher when she was in grade six.
Evans Mitchell has been the principal at John Christian Earhart School for the past three years.
She was also supposed to be in Toronto, Ontario today to receive a national award this evening on community service and education.
Unfortunately with the high winds this past week she was unable to travel, but her award will be sent to her via mail service.
