Coastal Community Enhancement Program

The Community Enhancement Employment Program is a provincially funded program that provides short-term employment for local workers within their community.

Workers are employed by local governments or community organizations for up to 400 hours in order for them to become eligible for Employment Insurance benefits.

We spoke with Dasi Ikkusek, the Town Manager in Nain.

She says they received funds from Nunatsiavut Government Economic Development.

Ikkusek says in total they hired 7 people, 3 of which have now completed the program.

She says there were 5 people hired to work on the new grave yard.

4 of those are left to complete their hours.

In Rigolet they hired 5 employees for the craft project.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       The employees are making moose hide slippers, mitts and souvenir items.
