Municipal Affairs to Investigate Nain Water Supply

Representatives from the provincial Department of Municipal Affairs will travel to Nain this week to investigate the condition of the water.

Tony Andersen is the AngajukKak of the Nain Inuit Community Government.

He says representatives from the department are scheduled to arrive in Nain on Thursday.

They will investigate the condition of the water which has been very murky and brown in color for quite some time.

The community has been ordered to boil the water for the last number of weeks.

Andersen says the NICG has been directing all of its resources to solving the problem.

Crews have been redirecting the streams leading into the fresh water supply.

They have also been flushing the lines and the wet well at the reservoir.

Andersen says the crews are dealing with a problem that has been caused by another party.

In speaking with engineers, the problem appears to be caused by the newly-constructed road to Trouser Lake.

Andersen says they are not offering any assistance to residents who need fresh water at this time.

The NICG is currently trying to contact the provincial and Nunatsiavut governments for assistance.

The Inuit Community Government is advising people to boil the water they fetch from the springs and brooks around the community.
