New Contract Awarded For Fuel Tanks

A new contract has been awarded for the installation, repair and certification of fuel tanks in the north coast communities.

The provincial government has announced that Nunatsiavut Supplies Ltd. now holds the contract.

The previous contract was cancelled because the contractor, Pressure Pipe Steel Fabrication Ltd., was unable to carry out the required work.

Nunatsiavut Supplies Ltd. was the second place bidder in the original call for tenders.

The provincial government chose not to tender the project again to avoid any further delays in the program.

The contractor is expected to begin the work in the near future.

Most of the fuel tanks have already been delivered to the communities.

The remaining tanks are expected to be delivered during the next run of the MV Astron.

The government says the program remains on schedule.

A new contractor also means a return to the original cost for participants of the program.

The maximum cost is now $1, 800 for homeowners.

That cost was $1, 000 with the previous contractor.
