The family of Burton Winters is asking all Nunatsiavut residents to join them in taking a stand against what they call an unacceptable response time by the Department of National Defense.
Natalie Jacque, Burton Winter’s stepmother, says she’s inviting all residents of Makkovik to join them on the ice on Thursday evening.
She also wants people in other Nunatsiavut communities to show their support as well.
Communities outside of Nunatsiavut are also planning to take action with protests being organized in happy Valley-Goose Bay and St. John’s.
The Department of National Defense hosted a news conference yesterday where they discussed their response in the search for Burton winters.
Jacque says the response was a slap in the face.
She adds that she doesn’t want to see what happened to her family happen to anybody else’s.
