Walkers Making Great Progress to Nunavik

Adventurers Noah Noachasak and Jerry Kobalenko are making excellent progress on their Tukimuatvut Expedition.

Nochasak called into the studio by satellite phone on Monday afternoon.

He says they’re about 80 kilometres into their 550 kilometre trek to kangidlualudjuak, Nunavik.

He says the walk so far has been mostly uphill presenting a challenge while towing around 200 pounds of gear.

He says the snow has been slowing their progress as well.

Nochasak says making it through the Pearly Gates, an area known to be challenging, wasn’t too bad.

The adventurers haven’t seen much wildlife only spotting a few partridges and a fox.

He and Kobalenko were on the barrens when they called on Monday afternoon.

They were stormbound at that time because of the high winds on the barrens.

The adventurers are expecting smoother sailing from here on out.

Nochasak says they’re still on schedule to reach kangidlualudjuak in about four weeks.

Nain’s Canadian Rangers paid a visit to the adventurers recently with supplies and equipment.

Nochasak says his SpotMe device wasn’t working properly.

He now has a new SpotMe that is connected to the military base in Gander.

The Department of National Defense, who helped fund the trip, will be alerted if Nochasak and Kobalenko require any assistance.
