Labrador Inuit Will Take Part in a Second Election (Audio)

Nunatsiavut beneficiaries are heading back to the polls.

Tuesday’s election resulted in 821 votes for Johannes Lampe, 742 votes for Sarah Leo and 569 votes for Susan Nochasak.

That’s 39 percent of the votes for Lampe, 35 percent for Leo and 27 percent for Nochasak.

The Labrador Inuit Constitution states that a candidate must receive at least 50 percent of the votes plus one.

Another election has to take place between the two candidates with the most votes if one of the candidate doesn’t receive the majority of the votes.

Sarah Leo confirmed Wednesday morning that she will take part in a second election.

A date for the election has not been at this point.
