Slight Discolouration in Nain’s Water Corrected

Residents of Nain are keeping a close eye on the quality of their water.

A number of people began raising concerns after they noticed that the water was becoming discoloured.

Tony Andersen is the AngajukKak in Nain.

He says the Nain Inuit Community Government has noticed the discolouration as well.

Crews have redirected streams of muddy water that have been flowing into the town’s water supply.

Andersen says the quality of the water in the taps seems to have improved.

He adds that they’re not expecting a repeat of last year’s situation.

A state of emergency was called last spring when the quality of the water made it unusable.

Spring runoff had collected silt from the newly-constructed road to the town’s future water source, Trouser Lake, and carried it into the current water supply.
