Nain Residents Advised Not to Consume Tap Water (Audio)

Nain residents are being advised not to consume the community’s tap water after it dropped in quality over the weekend.

Tony Andersen is Nain’s AngajukKak.

He says Friday’s high temperatures caused an increase in spring runoff.

That runoff carried silt into the town’s current water reserve.

Andersen says the town’s crews are currently in the process of connecting a line to another source of fresh water.

He says the community’s waterlines will need to be flushed after that connection is made.

The Nain Inuit Community Government was distributing bottled water to residents of the community on Monday.

The water was left over from when a similar situation occurred last year resulting in a state of emergency.

Andersen says they have no plans to fly anymore bottled water in at this point.
