Nain Dog Attacked by Rabid Fox

A Nain dog is being kept under quarantine after being attacked by a rabid fox.

Dr. Hugh Whitney is the Chief Veterinarian for the province.

He says the dog was bitten by a red fox on May 21.

A sample of the wild animal was tested for rabies and it was determined that it did in fact have the virus.

He says the dog is being observed for 45 days to determine if it contracted rabies during the attack.

The dog did receive a rabies vaccination shot in the past.

Whitney says they’re keeping the dog quarantined as a precaution.

The latest case of rabies brings the total number of confirmed cases in Labrador to 16.

Four of those have been from northern Labrador.
