Final Preparations Underway for Nutak Ceremony (Audio)

The final details are being nailed down for next week’s Nutak apology ceremony.

Former residents of the abandoned community will be returning to their original home on August 15.

A number of events are planned for the reunion such as the unveiling of a plaque to honour the relocatees and the recital of an apology by the provincial government.

Residents of Nutak were forced to move from their home by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in the late 1950s.

The government issued an apology to the relocatees back in 2005.

The Nunatsiavut Government’s Minister of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Johannes Lampe, says there are a total of 22 relocatees returning to Nutak next week.
