Emotional Day for Nutak Relocatees (Audio)

Emotions ran high during Wednesday’s apology ceremony in Nutak.

Over 20 former residents returned to their former home for the ceremony.

It was the first time that many of the relocatees had stepped foot in the area since being forced to relocate by the provincial government in the 1950s.

The ceremony involved the unveiling of a monument which honoured the people who once lived there.

Provincial Labrador Affairs Minister Nick McGrath was also on hand to recite an apology that was made to the relocatees in 2005.

Representatives of the Nunatsiavut and federal governments were also on hand to help mark the occasion.
