NG Says Drastic Measures Needed for George River Herd (Audio)

Nunatsiavut Government is saying that drastic measures must be taken to protect the George River Caribou herd.

In a press release, President Sarah Leo states action must be taken.

She says Nunatsiavut Government is requesting that all Aboriginal groups suspend harvesting caribou for two years.

Darryl Shiwak is the First Minister of NG.

He says the herd continues to decline with less than 25,000 left today.

Shiwak says they will meet with other Aboriginal Groups in mid January to gain support for hunters not to harvest the herd.
