Caribou Summit Successful (Audio)

The Nunatsiavut Government and Aboriginal Leaders have gotten together for the first time to hold a summit on the declining numbers of the George River Caribou herd.

The summit was held in kuudjuaq, Nunavik last week.

Sarah Leo is the President of NG.

She says all Aboriginal Groups are in favor of protecting and preserving the caribou from declining.

Leo says the Aboriginal groups will hold another meeting about the caribou in April.

In other news, the Nunatsiavut Government Assembly sitting was scheduled for today in Hopedale, but due to high winds the Assembly members couldn’t fly out.

Leo says two of the main issues they will deal with when they do get to Hopedale are the second reading of the Land Use Plan, and a bill for the new Torngasok Cultural Center.
