Flames Skate Off With Webb Memorial Tourney Trophy

The “Flames” team walked away with the Bernard and Jeffrey Webb Memorial Tournament trophy over the weekend in Nain.

Lisa Ivany is the Recreation Director.

She says Nain’s ‘Flames’ beat out five other teams for the top spot.

Three teams were local while the other two were RCMP, which iced a mixed team of local and out of towners, and the other was Team Natuashish.

The ‘Dream Team’ finished in second place followed by the ‘The Other Guys’ in third.

Dorothy Angnatok was named Most Sports Minded player.

Most Sports Minded Team went to RCMP/The Mounties.

JS Boutet was named Most Valuable Player in the playoffs and Jimmy Dyson was named overall MVP.

Jimmy Dyson also earned top-scorer honours in the tournament.

The top goaltender for the playoffs was Michael Dyson.

Brian Flowers was the top goalie for the tournament.

Ivany says the Recreation Department would like to thank Natuashish and the RCMP for coming to the tournament this weekend.

She also says a big thank you to all the volunteers, referees, Community Constable Morrall Blake, and AngajukKak Tony Andersen.

And thanks to Captain Daniel Barbour of the Other Guys, Sam Webb for dropping the puck, the recreation department staff and anyone else they may have forgotten.

Ivany also thanks all the community groups and individuals who came this weekend to fundraise.

Ivany says their presence and variety of food items was greatly appreciated.

She adds they would like to thank the community of Nain and the Webb family for all their support during the tournament.

And they look forward to seeing everyone for next year’s Tournament in 2014.
