Inuit Tapariit kanatami held their annual celebration. Their country foods harvested in Inuit Nunangat and it returned for the first time since 2019.
ITk has announced it will host its celebration of it’s Arctic country food and culture at the National Arts Centre on the evening of next Monday, June 5.
Formerly known as the taste of the Arctic, Tapariit meaning “united” in Inuktitut, will showcase country foods like Arctic char, goose, mattak and caribou in a reception-style dinner highlighting the 4 distinct regions of Inuit Nunangat.
The dishes will be prepared by chef Sheila Flaherty who is from Iqaluit, and National Arts Centre chef Kento Leier.
The evening will focus speakers and performances Arctic Ciqiniq, Terry Ujarak, Nancy Mike, Geronimo Itutiq and Deantha Edmunds.
“Getting ready to share country food is a big part of our culture, and I look forward to seeing friends, and making new ones as we gather to share in the bounty of Inuit Nunangat,” said ITk President Natan Obed.
