After twenty-four years as a Radio producer with the OKâlaKatiget Society, Joanna Dicker is retiring.
Joanna was hired by Frances Williams, then Executive Director on Jan. 11, 1995.
Joanna soon became Senior Radio Producer and responsible for the daily running of the radio program and four other radio producers.
Her interest in Labrador issues, especially the Inuit of Northern Labrador, found her seeking out many issues affecting Labrador Inuit, their language, culture and way of life.
With recorder in hand, you’d see her at many community meetings, recording issues such as health, social issues, wildlife, fisheries, government officials, be it local, provincial or federal.
Her love and knowledge of music and involvement in the Moravian church choir made her a major asset in many music festivals and Projects surrounding the importance of music to Nunatsiavummiut and preserving it for generations to come.
She has been a mentor and teacher to many young producers starting out as well as journalists and Executive Directors, from away, who have come to OKalaKatiget to work over the years.
Thank-you Joanna, for sharing our Culture and Way of Life in Nunatsiavut in our own language and by bringing it into our homes and providing entertainment to our Elders and youth alike.
We will all certainly miss you!
