April 12, 1980, 42 year ago, Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope run across Canada.
He started his historic journey by dipping his prosthetic leg in the Atlantic Ocean near St. John’s.
Terry became, and remains an inspiration to millions, and today we pay tribute to him, his legacy, and the awareness he raised for cancer research in our country. He didn’t get to finish his marathon, but we can all carry on Terry’s message of hope.
We spoke with Kim Andersen, Team Leader of Makkoviks Department of Health and Social Development.
The community of Makkovik will hold a walk today, Tuesday, September 19 starting 6pm at the DHSD building.
Andersen has pledge sheets and a donation jar to run site, for any donations, there will also be T-shirts to be drawn for a pair os sneakers for those who take part.
Andersen says that hopefully they will get people to take part and get donations for this worthy cause, and thanks those who is supporting this cause.
