OKâlaKatiget Radio contacted the Nain and Makkovik Fish Plant’s for updates.
Angel Chaulk is the Clerk for the Makkovik Fish Plant.
There is currently one active turbot boat fishing, with a total of 105,248 lbs. of turbot landed.
Chaulk says there are 28 employee’s working, and 7 of those are students.
We also spoke with Deidi Kohlmeister, Supervisor for the Nain Fish Plant.
Kohlmeister says that all the fisherman has now finished fishing this year.
They have a total of 47, 318 lbs. of char landed, and yesterday was their last landing of fish.
The plant is now scalloping, there is 3 crew members scalloping, so far, they have 3,125 lbs. of green scallops landed today.
Kohlmeister adds that they have laid off a few employees now, as they are finished fishing, and onto scalloping.
