OKâlaKatiget Radio reached out to the Coastal Department of Health and Social Developments for events for the remainder of September.
Gemma Pottle is the Mental Health and Addictions Worker in Makkovik. There is an event set to begin on Friday, September 22nd starting 5pm for Take Back the Night.
DHSD will have a walk and a fire pit to support Take Back the Night. Marshmallows, wieners, sandwiches, smores and beverages will be provided along with gift prizes to be won.
On Saturday, September 30th there is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Day event. Starting 11:30am everyone will meet at the DHSD building for the walk to support Residential School Survivors, please wear orange.
There will be a fire pit and supper served of subway, along with marshmallows and wieners, and beverages. There is also the candle in the window, please light your candle to show support, snap a photo and add in the comments on the Makkovik DHSD Community Events, get your name entered per event to get a chance to win one of their many great prizes.
In Nain there is also Take Back the Night event on Friday, September 22 starting 7pm, in partnership with the Nain Safe House, and RCMP.
We spoke with Elsie Russell, Mental Health and Addictions Worker in Nain. They will have a walk, meeting at the RCMP building and walk to the DHSD building, along with soup and chilli. There are also prizes of T-shirts, and pop sockets.
