The Department of Health and Social Development here in Nain is just finishing their 8 week Parenting Program facilitated by Russell and the Behavior Management Specialist, Linda Tibbo.
We contacted Elsie Russell who is the Mental Health and Addictions Worker with DHSD.
She says they will be having 15 participants graduating on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 and still has a few participants who still need to finish up but will be graduating next time.
They are planned to have a celebration on the land, have a boil up and do some fishing.
On July 17, Russell will be starting up a new 8 week Parenting Program.
Another one of her programs is the Power Hour is still running and is held every Thursdays at dinner hour at the Jeremias Sillitt Community Centre.
They walk starting at 12-12:30 followed by a healthy lunch and all is welcome.
She adds that if you attend the Power Hour for 10 sessions, you’ll get a t-shirt, and for 30 sessions, you’d get a hoodie.
Russell says it’s been running since last June and has been getting a lot of positive outcomes.
She adds that there will also be a Support Group starting at 7pm tonight at the Nigivik Centre.
Anyone ages 18 and up is welcome to attend.
And on Wednesday, July 10th, at 6pm, there will be a Support Group for all parents at the DHSD Multipurpose Room.
