Them Days

In Their Own Words, the Healing and Commemoration planned a travel exhibition, to tour a total of nine communities throughout Labrador and Newfoundland.

Aimee Chaulk is the Editor for Them Days in Goose-Bay.

The exhibition was developed from the Healing and Commemoration sessions held in several communities in 2018, following the 2017 apology to the former students of the NFLD and Labrador residential schools.

The launch was first set to begin in Nain July 17, 2023 but due to the incident at Illusuak, it didn’t happen.

Chaulk says that Alyssa Chaulk and Andrew Cabot, their administrative assistant and summer student, went to Nain last month and picked up the exhibition pieces from Illusuak.

Alyssa has been going through every piece and testing electronics. She and Ida Suarak have been cleaning everything that can be saved.

The banners are being cleaned in Toronto right now and some things that need to be replaced have been ordered and they are just waiting for them to come back. Chaulk says when we are ready; we will be launching the exhibition again. We would like to thank everyone in Nain who helped us out during this time.

Them Days is also in a need of a new roof before the snow falls. They are hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, September 16th from 11:30-2:30pm in their yard. There will be music, food, and a silent auction, including fresh made pies made by Judy Voisey. There is also 50/50 tickets for sale and will do the draw at the fundraiser.

If anyone on the North Coast would like to buy tickets, they can call the office at 709-896-8531 or message through Facebook.
