Wellness and Healing Programs Update

The Department of Health and Social Development in Nain are busy planning different Programs for the remainder of the summer.

Elsie Russell is the Mental Health and Addictions Councillor.

She says every Thursdays they hold the Power Hour walk, this event takes place every dinner hour from 12-1pm and they begin their walks at 12:30 inside the gym then have a healthy dinner lunch.

They provide water bottles to the new people who attend, and hands out T-shirt’s to those who attend 10 sessions and for those who attend a full year they get a camouflage hoody and it has “Power Hour” printed on it, also translated to “PISUKATIGENNIK SITONDIMI”.

Every Wednesday they hold parenting programs and which started on July 17, 2019; this program starts from 6-8PM located at the DHSD building.

From 8-9:30pm that evening, every second week they hold a support group for parents with children in care. They have snacks and gather around on a round table and talk about struggles.

Starting Mondays they will be holding Coping Skills for people with anxiety from 3pm, with Peter Pike and Elsie Russell.

Russell adds that they will soon have a Paint Night on a Monday so keep an eye out for this.
